Domains that don’t require WHOIS privacy
Our WHOIS domain name privacy service is included with most domains, including global domain extensions (gTLDs). However, privacy for some country code TLDs (ccTLDs) works differently.
Nominet, the registry that manages .co.uk, .uk, .org.uk and other UK extensions, applies its own WHOIS rules. Since GDPR came into effect in 2018, Nominet no longer publishes registrant names or addresses in their public WHOIS database by default. Personal details are held by Nominet, but are not displayed unless the registrant has opted in to publication.
This means that for domains ending in .uk, your personal data will be hidden by default. A separate domain privacy service isn’t required.
However, for non-UK extensions like .com, .net, .org, .io and others, privacy is not implied by default. Without a domain privacy service, your personal details are published. That’s why it’s important to choose a provider that offers full WHOIS privacy as standard.
