The client and the challenge

Menopause Cafe is a Scottish charity working to reduce the stigma and silence that still surround menopause. Since launching the first event in Perth in 2017, it’s grown into a global network of pop-up discussion groups open to all ages and genders that are held online, in workplaces and in communities around the world.

That kind of reach doesn’t happen by accident. Behind the scenes, the charity relies on a website that’s stable, scalable and simple to manage – built on WordPress and hosted by Krystal.

As a small, volunteer-powered team, they needed hosting that would just work – and a support team they could trust to respond quickly and clearly when needed.

Today, the Menopause Cafe website plays a vital role in connecting people across the world. Visitors can search for nearby events, register to host their own, or buy merchandise that supports the charity – including the now-iconic Menopause Awareness Ribbon.

“The site has been essential,” says Rachel. “It connects people who want to talk about menopause – to share their stories, tips, laughter and tears.”

It’s not just a logistical tool, it’s an emotional lifeline. Rachel explains how people often leave their first Menopause Cafe event feeling seen and supported.

“We often hear people say, ‘Now I know I’m not alone,’ or, ‘Now I know I’m not going mad.’ That’s what it’s all about.”

The charity recently launched an online shop using WooCommerce, running on the same Krystal hosting. It’s helped them offer merchandise worldwide – growing awareness and generating funds to keep the mission moving.

Shared values, not just shared tech

The partnership with Krystal goes beyond technical support. For Rachel and the team, it was important to work with a provider that shared their ethos – one rooted in care, fairness and people-first thinking.

“It was important to us to work with a company that shares our values,” says Rachel. “We saw that in how Krystal grows – reinvesting in their systems, looking after their staff, and offering free hosting to charities like ours.”

Looking to the future

As Menopause Cafe continues to expand its international reach, the team is planning a website refresh to improve performance and accessibility. At the same time, they’re developing new merchandise and exploring how to scale impact without increasing overheads.

“We’re figuring out how to scale from a Scotland-based charity to an international one, without growing our budget,” Rachel explains. “If Krystal ever wanted to support us with a faster or more efficient site, we’d be hugely grateful.”

Through it all, their mission remains clear: to make menopause a normal part of everyday conversation – something no one feels the need to hide or suffer through alone.

“Menopause affects half the population directly – and the other half through their family, friends and colleagues,” says Rachel. “We all need to know how to talk about it. The right tech support helps us keep that conversation going.”
